The Library Director leads the library in the delivery of outstanding services and programs for our community. The Director oversees operations of the library and the development and implementation of its programs, including assisting the board with strategic planning and policy development, managing all library resources, organizing and control of the collections, designing and implementing services and programs and overseeing maintenance and safety of the library building and grounds.

The following are normal for the position but shall not be construed as exclusive or inclusive. Other related duties may be required and assigned.

• Establishes and achieves strategic and operational goals for the library in alignment with the Library Board and according to the needs of the community.
• Presents special programs, such as book reviews, lectures, and instructional activities to extend library services and facilities into the community.
• Prepares narrative and statistical reports for the Library Board, the State Library, and the City Council as appropriate.
• Drafts and recommends policies to the Library Board; implements public library objectives and policies as established by the Board.
• Administers and evaluates library services such as circulation, reference, children's programming, community outreach and public information.
• Oversees existing library programs, services, policies and procedures and submits recommendations for improvements to the Library Board.
• Engages community leaders and other stakeholders and builds strong relationships.
• Oversees public relations, addresses complaints and resolves issues.
• Participates in professional library associations and other professional organizations to remain current on developments and advancements in Library Science, public administration and training.
• Negotiates contracts and agreements with other libraries, library systems and businesses.
• Plans and implements procedures to augment library goals and services through the Library Foundation, and in cooperation with community educational, cultural, civil organizations.

Collection Management
• Directs the development, maintenance and efficient circulation of the library's collection.

• Drives a culture of excellence.
• Defines responsibilities, establishes lines of authority, delegates work and directs the duties and training of the library staff.
• Sets department goals and long-term plans and works with staff in achieving goals.
• Recruits, selects, hires, supervises, trains, evaluates, motivates, manages performance and rewards and disciplines the library staff in accordance with library and city policies.
• Leads by example and motivates staff to achieve their full potential; ensures open communication at all levels of the library.

Financial Management
• Prepares the annual library budget for board discussion and approval.
• Participates in presentations and explains the proposed budget.
• Manages annual budget and maintains accurate records.

The starting salary for this position ranges from $80,750 to $92,273 based on experience and qualifications; with the potential to earn up to $110,728 over time; accompanied by an exceptional benefits package.

Minimum Requirements
• Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited graduate program
• Must be a certified Grade 1 Librarian in the State of WI or eligible for certification upon hire AND
• Must maintain Grade 1 Certification throughout tenure of Library Director
• Valid State of WI Driver License is required by the time of hire

Preferred Qualifications
• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible public library experience
• Five (5) years of experience in the supervision of a public library major department or as a director of a smaller public library
• Experience working with governing boards desirable
• Proficiency in computer operation including Microsoft Office products
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
• Ability to build strong working relationships with all levels of staff and the community
• Ability to facilitate and navigate conflict and make difficult decisions
• Strong financial and business acumen
